In January 2016, I decided to become a massage therapist. I had been a Reiki Master and intuitive energy practitioner and wanted to continue to help people, my mother being one of those people.
April 2016, I started massage school. two weeks into school at Capri College Waterloo, my mother passed away, of severe underyling pulmonary disease, complicated by the addiction to pain medication.
Massage school went by quickly and I was fueled by my grief and the overwhelming desire to help others avoid the cycle of pain medication addiction that my mother had suffered from.
I graduated first in my class, with a 97% average, almost two weeks earlier than my classmates, while healing from a car accident that I had been in, five days prior to graduation.

In January 2021, my health started to rapidly and severely deteriorate. By Fall 2021, I was barely practicing massage. I spent most of my time at doctor's appointments and in bed. I saw countless specialists and was referred to Mayo Clinic Rochester. In February 2022, I was finally seen at the Mayo Clinic and from there, my healing journey began. I spent most of 2022, up at Mayo Clinic, being tested, scheduled for possible surgery. I was diagnosed with MALS, which is a rare digestive syndrome. I also was indicated for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and Pulmonary Fibrosis, two conditions that my mother quickly passed away from in 2016. Along with other issues and abnormalities, my outlook was not great. We discovered that several calcified lymph nodes in my lungs, and calcification in my pulmonary artery, had been overlooked by the local medical team. I was experiencing extreme swelling with any form of exertion.
I have spent years helping my clients, working on an extensive knowlefge base of different conditions that my clients had or could be contraindicated with massage. I applied that same passion to myself and started to research what could be causing the issues I was experiencing, fearful that I would lose my life early, the way that my mother had.
In August 2022, I began a protocol that I had researched, suspecting that I had a rare condition, that was progressing my pulmonary issues. One month later, I passed a 3mm kidney stone, which was confirmed by a CT Scan and have vast improvements in my bloodwork. I asked my doctor to order a 24 Urine test to confirm my suspicions and he granted me the test and a referral to a urologist. I went off my protocol, to create a baseline when tested. My urine test came back positive and when I met with my urologist, he approved my protocol. I self-diagnosed for a rare, underlying condition called Secondary Hyperoxaluria, which was later confirmed via urine tests and my doctors. Around Christmas time, after extensive cardiopulmonary testing and imaging, along with bloodwork, it was determined that the evidence of PAH and Pulmonary Fibrosis, was minimal. I had only one remaining calcified lymph node and my artery and heart were performing normal. I was cleared from any further testing and they took me off the surgery schedule for MALS, because the symptoms had subsided.
I am incredibly grateful to be alive, to have my health and to be given a second chance to create dreams and help others. Since January 2023, I have been building back my stamina, strength and endurance. I take a few supplements to regulate the Hyperoxaluria, and avoid foods on my intolerance list. I take no medications at this time.
